A Serenity of Temper

Spiritual joy
is a serenity of temper in the changes of life,
such as a mountain has when a storm breaks over it.
To a man who has never rooted
 the soul in the Divine,
 every trouble exaggerates itself.

  1. Nancy,
I love Archbishop Sheen. This quote of his is so true. I see this lived out in people around me every day who have no faith. My faith, my hope, my joy is in Jesus. With Him there is no need to panic over anything.
    Thanks for sharing this.

    1. Thank you, Karinann. Yes, with Jesus there is no need to panic. Over ANYTHING. But I admit to a need for reminders.. so I thank God for His mercy!

  2. Nancy, When I think of all the changes that have come over my life through the years I know that any serenity of temper I've had is because of His mercies to me. Archbishop Sheen just had a way of speaking right to the heart of a matter. Blessings +

  3. This is really speaking to my soul Nancy...thank you. I certainly have not arrived at that point...remaining serene among the storms of life. Spiritual joy? Maybe someday...

    1. Thanks so much, Theresa. And I like your "maybe someday...", for the prospect of spiritual joy in storms can seem so totally impossible. But that word "maybe" carries within it a glimmer of hope...
