"The present life is given to us only to earn eternal life. If we forget this, we tend to concentrate all our affections on the things of this world....
Believe me, if we want to live as happy pilgrims, we must have in our hearts the hope of that country where we will settle down forever. But at the same time we must believe, and believe with all our hearts (this is a sacred truth!), that God keeps a loving eye on us as we walk toward Him, and never lets anything happen to us that is not for our greater good."
St. Francis de Sales, Letter 1502

Oh what a great post! This struggle to keep one foot in eternity as we go along is ongoing. There is so much pulling our attention to ways of the world. It is so good to be reminded what mountain we are ascending and what country of God we are plodding!! Thanks for your words and painting once again. I always seem to need to read and see what you post. Your place is a gem!! God Bless...
ReplyDeleteThank you for such kind words! Yes, the struggle is ongoing. Ongoing. Ongoing. Ongoing. Ongoing.....
DeleteIt is such an ongoing struggle, Nancy. But, lately as the world moves along in it's haze of confusion these days-- it's easier to let go of it's appeal : )

ReplyDeleteNancy,
ReplyDelete"God keeps a loving eye on us as we walk toward Him." Sometimes it just feels like He has disappeared and left us to it. But I guess these are the times when we need to reaffirm our trust in God and keep going regardless.
Oh yes, it does indeed feel like that sometimes. Hard to plug along at those times, huh? Thank God He gives us graces, even when we don't percieve them. Thanks, Sue!
