If They Were To...

'Few souls understand what God would accomplish in them
if they were to abandon themselves unreservedly to Him,
and if they were to allow His grace to mold them accordingly.'

St. Ignatius Loyola

  1. Nancy,

Your post just jumped out at me from my feed. Maybe you posted this quote for me! Why is it so hard to abandon ourselves completely? It's not difficult when we are stripped of everything and have nowhere else to go. But on ordinary days... I shall think some more. Thank you!

    1. Why IS it so hard.... I don't know! But for me, it's an ongoing struggle. I shall think some more also! Thanks, Sue.

  2. Beautiful.... the painting and this quote. Just thinking of the possibility of abandoning ourselves completely gives me such a sense of relief. To just let go and let Him catch us. Ahhhh...
As your friend Sue says, I shall think more on this.

    Wishing you a beautiful evening,
    Brenda

    1. Looks like there are now at least 3 of us thinking more about this, Brenda! Thanks so much - and I'm glad we're thinking together :) !

  3. Yes! I agree with Sue Elvis...to abandon ourselves in the ordinary moments is such a struggle. I think I can do it on my own so often only to block grace and God's movement through me. The painting is a great one for this quote as her rather stubborn stance suggests the resistance to God's will. And the colors once again are a feast for the eyes...Thanks for the food for contemplation.

    1. Ah, now we have four thinkers :)! My "thinks" are like yours.... I think I can do it on my own, and I wind up blocking God's grace and movement through me.

I'm now looking again at the painting. She's looking toward the light. Is she wistful at all.... just a touch? Determined? Unsure? Her expression is both unreadable and full of interpretations! Maybe she's our fifth thinker ! :)

  4. Your quote made me think of a ship at sea, so I turned it into a meme. http://truedignityofwomen.wordpress.com/2014/09/23/like-a-ship-at-sea/
