Toward Holy Thoughts and Good Desires

'As the reading of bad books fills the mind with worldly and poisonous sentiments;
so, on the other hand,
the reading of pious works fills the soul with holy thoughts and good desires.'

St. Alphonsus Liguori

  1. Amen! I love to read, but I have to be selective; I really don't want to fill my mind with ugliness with no redemption, which is seen in many post-modernist books. I am going to send this quote to my book club as we vote on books to read this year.
    And Happy New Year to you, Nancy!

    1. Thank you, Deborah. I'm selective too, and you said it so well when you spoke of ugliness with no redemption. Amen!

    1. Thanks so much - and I find the painting exquisite also. Especially the hair. And I think I could write a whole bog post about just that! (maybe someday I will!)
